Our thoughts on:"I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not."-Kurt Cobain

In this special blog both Caroline and I are going to be sharing our thoughts in this quote: "I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not."-Kurt Cobain. We chose this quote because it spoke out to us and it was inspirational. This quote signifies that its better to be yourself and not act or be someone else. Especially in this time, many young kids fall into a scene where it is "cool" to be a part of. Originality doesn't exist anymore.Younger kids look up to the older crowd thinking that it's the right way to fit in. These kids are lying to themselves, it's better to be who you are, then to pretend to be something you're not.
Everyone is different and special in their own way. It's okay to be yourself because it shows people that not only are you true to yourself but to others as well. Our opinion is, we prefer to be someone who is themselves rather than wasting time with a person who lies to themselves. We believe that peer pressure drags people into something they are not. In  a way society changes people, some people want to fit in, and the only way for them to do that is to go in the bandwagon and follow what everyone else is doing. Commercial advertisement plays a massive role with peer pressure. It pressures anyone to look or act a certain way.
Sincerely,
Michael Salcedo & Caroline Gentile

Biggest insect in the world

Most people are afraid or terrified by insects. Insects are weird looking creatures. I myself don’t really like them.  But how would you react when you are walking down a regular forest or any grassland and up in the tree’s you see a not huge but bigger than normal cricket looking creature. Ask Mark Moffett, age 55. He has been looking for this creature called a Weta bug, He saw it 2 days before he actually caught it in an island in New Zealand. Ever since he saw it he was enchanted to catch it. When he encountered it for a second time he saw it on a tree. It has the wing span of seven inches, and the weight of 3 mice. This creature is quite big for its kind.It is known to be the biggest insect in the world.

Excel

Ever since I had knowledge of a computer I have always seen the excel program on the “Microsoft Office” tab. I never explored it, and didn’t really have any interest in doing so. Computers for me were just a way to play games on the internet and do research for HW. I have recently been able to explore it and find out what good uses it has. My first thought about its use was that it might be handy for graphs or for tables. After a whole day of viewing its functions, I came to realize that excel is a great program for many uses, especially for math. In this program you are able to write an equation for whatever your purpose is for. If you need the same equation for other problems you can easily drag the cell where you previously used it and drag it to the ones you want it, and you don’t have to do any calculations the program does it for you. There will be no need for you to show work . This is a great way for lazy math students to get their answers, but it will take maybe a longer time. Since you would have to re-write the problems.

Network Neutrality

What is website discrimination? Website discrimination is when an ISP (Internet service provider) can make a website load faster or slower than others. This is subject is called network neutrality. It is sort of like our freedom in the internet. It has been a debate for a long time. I believe that no company should discriminate against any other website. If this actually happens, internet providers would be on a more competitive level. They would raise prices for not only your internet in general but also for you preferred web pages or your favorite ones. Network neutrality is what allows the internet to be free and open. It allows every webpage to open in an equal amount without being biased. It doesn’t matter if the webpage is popular, a blog, a place to stream video they will all load up at the same speed. ISP shouldn’t charge people for a certain web page.

Japan's Flying Sphere

I have recently read an article called” Japan’s Incredible Flying Sphere Hovers Its Way Into My Heart” by Roberto Baldwin. This article can be found on http://gizmodo.com/5853309/japans-incredible-flying-sphere-hovers-its-way-into-my-heart. The article is about a sphere that Japan has made. This sphere is very advanced. It can be very useful for the military. The sphere isn’t small it is much like a beach volleyball. You might think that something that is that size might not be able to hover in such great heights. But the Japanese have made this device able to hover. It also has a camera right in the center of the inside. That is why I think it would be a great tool for the military. Not only can it hover but it is also able to move on flat surface. The camera would be very useful in this position. One thing that I forgot to mention is that, once it is in the air it is very hard to move it. For example, let’s say you hit the sphere. It might wobble but it won’t lose the movement or position it is in. The Japanese really did made an exciting invention. I could see many military’s all over the world adopting this sphere.

Differences Between Cover Letters and Resume's

Resumes are often used for job interviews, so that the person who is interviewing you would know your past and your accomplishments throughout your school career. But what is a cover letter? You might ask. A cover letter is used to tell the job you are applying for why you want to join and why you would be a good choice for them. A resume should always be accompanied by a cover letter. If you have a good cover letter, that would encourage the reader to read your resume.
A resume includes a variety of things. Resume’s and cover letters are two different pieces of literature. Resumes include most of your information and it acknowledges your accomplishments. It doesn’t have to be into detail. It is just an overview of most of your life. A cover letter says why you want to join their job and why you would be the best chosen for that position.

Earth in the Future

I have recently discovered how earth will be in the future. An article that I have just read showed me how earth would be in a certain amount of time. It shocked me that people could make these predictions because they show us how earth is going to be in 7 billion years. It is most likely not going to exist. The article shows us about 15 different time periods. In about 50,000 years earth would be more heated due to all the fossil fuels getting burned. Humans would also be able to explore our solar system. This is very interesting to hear. I would think that this would never happen. Also in about 50 million years the continents (Africa and Europe) are going to join together. I also found out that in 250 million years north and South America are going to combine with Africa and Europe combining to a super continent. There are many things from this that I would not ever expect would happen. In 1.1 billion years the sun would be 10% much more bright than today. Life on earth might still exist but most people will live underground or near moist areas. These are things that would happen in a scientific comic book, but they are predictions that may come true in the future.

The Internet Of Things

Do you ever lose something and can't find it. After wards it turns out they were in the most obvious place, perhaps your pocket. How would you feel if you could find everything by a single button on your phone? Imagine every object around you had a micro-chip that can be tracked. I would personally love that, I am constantly losing all of my belongings, and it’s frustrating because you look everywhere. Under the pillow, the couch, your kitchen maybe. It usually takes a long time for me to look for it. I believe that by having this new upgrade in every object around us, it will save lots of time for everyone. This might be the most useful thing that technology has given us this year. While I was reading the article on Discover Magazine, I honestly thought they were trying to fool us. It was something that people back in the 80’s would dream of existing. Now that we have it, It does not seem realistic. Everyone is going to be able to locate/track all of their stuff. They would know exactly where it’s at. You would also be able to find out if your vegetables or fruits are from a healthy source. I believe all of this would be so helpful to many people.
